Joseph L. Cerbone, President, JLC Landscape & Tree Services

JLC’s history started with one neighbor, one lawn, one mower, and one very ambitious young boy.   In the early 1980’s, Joseph L. Cerbone, a neighborhood boy from Holbrook, started his business riding his bike to his neighbors’ houses to mow their lawns.  The landscape industry quickly sparked Joe’s interest.  Throughout high school he worked with a local landscape company.  But Joe wanted to offer his clients more.  He wanted to offer them the expertise and knowledge that came from a formal education and training program.  He began his education at Suffolk County Community College, receiving an AAS Degree with distinction in Landscape Development.  He then went on to SUNY Cobleskill, where he received a Bachelors of Technology Degree in Plant Science.  From there, he went on to Dowling College, where he received a Masters Degree in Business Administration with a Post Masters Certificate in Total Quality Management.

Throughout JLC’s early years, Joe offered basic maintenance services in local communities.  As his clients’ needs grew beyond maintenance, Joe grew with them; expanding JLC and offering the landscape design services his clients were seeking.  Joe always strives to provide his clients with consistent, high quality service, and prides himself on developing long-term relationships that clients can always rely on.

Looking to bridge the gap between formal education and the landscape industry, Joe returned to Suffolk County Community College for six years as an adjunct professor where he taught Landscape Design, Computer Imaging, and Landscape Management courses.  As a professor he was very active in the Horticulture Program and encouraged professionalism in the industry.

Joe belongs to several industry associations such as NSLGA, PLANET, NESPA, LIAA, and LIFB, allowing him to keep current on new products, services, and all applicable laws.

Over 18 years later, JLC Landscape & Tree Services has grown from the local neighborhood maintenance route to a quality design/build firm serving clients from Nassau County to Shelter Island. Joe Cerbone plays an active role in overseeing the day-to-day operations both in the office and the field.  As JLC’s primary designer and estimator, Joe is involved in all phases of every landscape project.

Leadership, hard work and his Total Quality Management philosophy have been the driving force of the success and growth of JLC.  In addition, Joe has consistently dedicated his expertise and resources to a diversity of community, school, and goodwill events.
