Fun Budget-Friendly Ways to Update Your Kitchen

When talking about renovation projects and upgrades, people are generally led to believe that the kitchen and the bathroom are two of the pricier ones, no matter the scale and the scope of the project. However, this simply can’t be further from the truth.
Of course, if you’re planning to remodel your entire kitchen and update all of your appliances, it will cost you a pretty penny. But if you’re just looking to add a breath of fresh air to your current design and change the vibe in your kitchen with small upgrades and new décor pieces, the truth is that you can easily do so without your budget even noticing the difference. If you’re not sure how, check these ideas out.
Add some personality to the space
One of the easiest ways you can update the look of your kitchen is by bringing in some personality to the space. You can achieve this with a chic patterned rug or interesting wallpaper. Bringing some unique textures and designs into any space will instantly make it feel more personal, which is definitely something your kitchen can benefit from. Finally, depending on the color scheme you have in your kitchen, you can even add some gentile curtains with the ever-favorite flower print or some cool and unique Roman blinds.
Bring in an element of surprise
In most kitchens, you can find different appliances, kitchen cabinets, a kitchen island and sometimes a dining table and chairs. But rarely ever do we fill this space with cool wall art pieces or some other decorative elements. Therefore, if you bring in an unexpected decorative piece into your kitchen, you will instantly create an additional visual interest in the space. This can be anything from a beautiful wall tapestry to a lavish chandelier. Alternatively, instead of hiding your pots and pans, cups and mugs in your kitchen cabinets, you can organize and hang them on the wall of your kitchen or on the side of your kitchen cabinets and have them serve a dual purpose – both the functional and the decorative one.
Organize everything like a pro
Furthermore, an organized kitchen is a beautiful kitchen – keep that in mind when thinking about updating it. First, make sure there are no dirty – or clean, dishes in sight to avoid making a visual mess. Since dishwashers heat up the water in order to thoroughly clean your dishes, if you open them as soon as they’re done and wait for about half an hour before you start taking the dishes out, the dishes will get enough time to dry off due to the hot air coming from the dishwasher. Furthermore, you can use your produce and groceries as an additional kitchen decoration. Simply put your pastas, tea bags, coffee, cocoa and similar items in clear mason jars and color coordinate them on your kitchen counter. However, make sure you clearly mark everything in order to avoid having to guess what each jar contains. You can do this by simply sticking black name tags on the jars and using a colorful permanent marker to write the names of the things that are in the jars.
Decorate with spices and herbs
Finally, any space can benefit a lot design-wise from some beautiful greenery. Since the kitchen is usually the space where you want to have absolute freedom of movement, you can’t really fill it with different planters and pots. But what you can do is install some sleek wall shelves on the wall that’s exposed to a lot of sunlight during the day and arrange different potted spices and herbs on them. Herbs, such as lavender, rosemary, thyme and basil generally enjoy warm environments and plenty of sunlight, which makes them the perfect choice for areas such as the kitchen. And not only do they look absolutely adorable and fit right in with the theme and the purpose of this space, but they also give off a beautiful fragrance.
Most likely, you will have to agree that none of these upgrades is particularly unattainable or expensive. Therefore, if you are thinking about redecorating or upgrading your kitchen, start small and give these a try. You will be surprised just how such a small design change, such as any of these, can truly make a huge difference.
