The Benefits of Casement Windows

Casement windows can be adapted to fit most standard window frames, which makes them particularly beneficial for most homeowners. Additionally, installing replacement casement windows is not an overly laborious task. There are many benefits of casement windows–whether in new constructions or older structures– and they come down to three key points.

Ease of Use

A casement window attaches to its frame on hinges. The window’s crank handle—easily moved yet sturdily in place—enables the window to open outward with minimal strain on the wrist. Closing it is just as easy. Just turn the crank in the opposite direction.

Casement windows come with insect screening attached on the inside rather than the outside, and they are especially popular for hard-to-reach places in your home, such as behind the kitchen sink or in an elevated position.

Security

The strong and sturdy glass options of double or triple glazing—customary in all of our models today—will give you the peace of mind you require when protecting your home. We fit all windows with locking mechanisms, which ensures the security of your family and the safety of your belongings.

Insulation and Ventilation

When you close casement windows, they shut quickly and seal completely, making them among the most efficient windows. Expertly installed casement windows won’t let in drafts or other outside elements, making them a great choice for keeping the winter cold out and keeping you cozy.

Casement windows also adapt just as well to warmer weather. When leaving your casement windows open in the summer, you’ll notice they open much wider than other types of windows. This allows for maximum ventilation, fresh air, and natural light. Insulation and ventilation add more than just comfort to your home’s environment. These factors also increase your home’s energy efficiency and maintain airflow. As a result, casement windows serve as a long-term money saver.

As with all of our products, our casement windows come with a limited warranty. Our dedicated service staff is here to ensure you have all the knowledge you need to replace windows in your home.

Casement Window Size

Casement window sizes come in many different interior colors and tend to be built according to standard measurements. Most of them start at a width of 2 feet and a height of 4 feet and move up in size by 2 inches proportionally.

Additionally, casement windows—which are made of fiberglass and come in a variety of exterior colors—can stand alone in a window jamb or, if the jamb demands it, two can share a frame. If the window jamb is exceptionally long, a number of casement windows can be fitted so long as the frames are in place to add hinges and support the windows.

Having a number of casement windows in succession like this has the added benefit of being able to be opened independently of one another. Imagine an eight-foot-long window with four casement windows installed. Such a dramatic arrangement can provide a home with wide, unobstructed views of the outside, letting in the maximum amount of light while also enjoying vista views of the outside.

Customizing Casement Windows

But that is not to say that casement windows cannot be made to suit exactly what you need. With a number of different design options and window styles, we construct casement windows to fit any sized window jamb. For instance, if your house is older, built before window standardization, it may be necessary to have a custom casement window size. Once your custom window is manufactured, we ensure it works like a charm in your home.

Another way of customizing your casement window is by adding grilles or grids across the surface of the glass. This can give otherwise clear panes of glass a Tudor-like style. We can also install an awning window, which has hinges on the top of the frame and opens outward.

Our Method For Casement Window Installation

If you require casement window installation, there are a few easy steps that will allow this dream to become a reality.

  • Before we start installing, we must ensure that your old window has been properly removed from the frame.
  • With your new casement window ready to go, we must now prepare the opening by waterproofing the frame and then installing and applying the interior and exterior trim. With the right measurements in place, the window will fit seamlessly.
  • We must then pre-drill screw holes, ideally using at least three screws per side. The number of screws per side will go up if your window is larger. Once the window is ready, we install it in the window frame before shimming the windows with 2-inch shims. This will ensure your casement window is plumb level and square.
  • Once everything is in place, it is time to screw your new window into place. After cutting off the excess shim lengths, your casement window is secure, installed, and ready for the whole family to use.
